Welcome to the Ebenezer Church

Discover the rich history and vibrant community of the Ebenezer Church. A place where faith, tradition, and community spirit come together in Willemstad, Curaçao.

A rich history of faith

The Ebenezer Church has a remarkable history dating back to 1929, when Obediah (Obed) Anthony, a Methodist preacher from Dominica, came to Curaçao. He began preaching among the English-speaking immigrants, thus laying the foundations for what would later become the Ebenezer Church.

After his return in 1930, he continued his work as a preacher and reverend, with services initially held in rented buildings or outdoors. During this period, Sunday school activities and the Ebenezer Bible Study and Prayer Group also began.

Our mission: An inclusive community

Our mission is deeply rooted in Matthew 28:18-20, where Jesus instructs us: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." We strive to make non-Christians converts, converts disciples, and disciples dedicated stewards and mature, fruitful leaders. The Ebenezer Church welcomes everyone, regardless of background, and offers a home to both local residents and visitors from all over the world.

An energetic and inspiring experience

The services at Ebenezer Church are filled with energy and encouragement, creating an uplifting environment. Our church community includes people of all ages, from young children to the elderly. We also welcome visitors from all over the world, ensuring everyone feels at home.

Services are held in English, with Papiamentu translations provided when needed. In addition to regular services, we organize special services for young adults and youth every two months.

‘Do not let your hearts be troubled… trust in God.’

Whatever lies ahead, walk in faith, not fear. God is already there.

Rev. Kenneth M. Kross

Minister, Ebenezer United Protestant Church

My calling is rooted in a deep love for God and a desire to bring people closer to Christ by teaching the Gospel. Before entering the ministry, I worked as a teacher, school principal, and Head of Human Resources. These experiences shaped my leadership skills and pastoral sensitivity, which greatly enrich my work as a Reverend today.

To me, the church is a living community where love, grace, and truth come together. I believe it is essential that everyone feels seen, supported, and encouraged to grow in faith. In my ministry, I find energy in preaching, providing pastoral care, and building up the congregation.

With a background in Foreign Languages, Management, and Theology, my passion is to communicate biblical truth in a way that is both understandable and deeply relevant to our daily lives.

Yvonne Isidora-Gumbs

Lay Pastor, Ebenezer United Protestant Church

I am honored to serve as the current Lay Pastor at Ebenezer Church. My connection to this community runs deep; my family played a key role in its foundation and growth. Both my grandfather, Joseph Gumbs, who served as a pioneer and Lay Pastor and my grandmother, Ethel Gumbs, faithfully contributed to the church, a legacy also carried on by my late sister, Ethlyn Balborda-Guy.

Throughout my life, I have remained closely connected to Ebenezer Church, experiencing both joyful and challenging moments within this warm community. The love, support, and spiritual guidance I receive here keep me grounded in faith.

Grateful for the influence of past ministers and fellow members, I am deeply committed to continuing our church’s legacy. I love encouraging unity, faithfulness, and dedication to God’s teachings, trusting that Ebenezer Church will continue to grow and inspire future generations.
